Purple was the colour of the night at Smiths Falls council meeting Sept. 17. Mayor Shawn Pankow declared September as Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) month, noting as well that the water tower would glow purple this week to commemorate the declaration.
He added that “evidence-based research shows that every dollar invested in BBBS of Lanark County is returned to society as $18.”
The organization is always looking for volunteers. When volunteers work with kids they are “less likely to bully, do better at school and have a healthy, positive outlook on life.”
Gail Logan, Executive Director, present Monday night for the declaration, said this month BBBS will push finding volunteers to mentor kids; and she thanked the Town for its ongoing support, both moral and financial.
